Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah.
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Paul Simon -- Kodachrome

Sometimes it isn't easy living in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay.

On Wednesday I set out for the Chincoteague Seafood Festival armed with my camera, fully prepared to document the beauty and bounty of my home. I snapped three photos as we entered the Festival and then...nothing. Nada. Zilch. So much for the mouthwatering photos of the fabulous steamed clams, raw oysters, clam fritters, sweet potato fries, fried trout sandwiches...oh, so delicious. Forget the shots of the happy crowd or the errant Chincoteague pony. My camera battery conked out.
No big deal, right? Except we have few stores here (not even the ever-present Wal Mart, although that is on its way) and I couldn't find the battery anywhere! Finally found one on Friday, just in time to set out for ShoreFest.
Yes, there are lots of "Fests" on the Shore. This particular "Fest" is a fundraiser for our Hospital. Since Shore Health Services keeps us clothed and fed we are big supporters, and this particular fundraiser is decorated by yours truly. My friend Sally is the Marketing and Development Director and she gives me a budget and lets me go crazy. I love doing this stuff, especially with someone else's money.

This year's theme was the Fabulous Fifties and I managed to procure a mint condition '57 Chevy to park out front. Soooo super cool and I didn't get a shot of it or the front room, but I did take a picture of the dining tables. We sold the gumball machines on each table, and everyone had a fantastic time having too many cocktails and doing unspeakable things with the Mr. Potato Heads. There is a golf tournament and a big auction; I bought a trip to the Hotel Hershey Spa and my Mom, Sis and I are going...I love to bid and it seems to bring out my competitive side. All in all we raised about 45k for our Cancer Center; the most profitable ShoreFest yet!

You are making my mouth water with all your talk of food festivals, and clams, and fritters, and tasty things!!!! I wish I was there!
You certainly live in a beautiful place!

Could you send Tracy back to save our hospital? They are in serious trouble again and I told Martin that I cannot live in a town with no emergency services at all. I don't know why they hired someone with no experience and no personality to run it anyway! Run it into the ground for the upteenth time....

I love your pictures, they are wonderful and your food descriptions have my mouth watering this early. I LOVE seafood!

Tracy's parents and a couple of other folks have asked the same thing...can't drag me away from the beach!

The Shorefest decorations look awesome - very fun and funky...just like you! Nicely done.
We're going to be missing us some blue crab this summer. Even in Durham we could spend ridiculous amounts of money to get a pound for crab cakes on occasion, but out here I'm afraid we're going to be out of luck. I did find one fish market who said they could have whole frozen crabs shipped out, but I think the cost was upwards of $100 for a half bushel.
Sacrifices, sacrifices, I guess. Indulge in lots of yummy seafood on our behalf this season, will you? Although you can skip the clam fritters; I still have some nasty memories of the aftermath from Hilda Crockett's lunch. :)

Now Amy you could still visit the beach! You could help make this place a fun town! And save us from living in fear with no hospital less than 35 minutes away! What if I cut a main artery or something?

You should just pick up and move to the Shore, Deana! You can bring all the pets (including the horses), you'll be near the beach, and it seems like I've heard recently we have had a shortage of judges out here. You would love it (don't think your family would be too happy, though).

I love the blue-shack photo.

So glad you liked the house. I live here, and amazed at the houses I find. But yours...wow... 1835? And I thought our 82 year old house had creaks, leaks and problems. Glad you liked the idea of the SAT posts. I do them every weekend (tho I don't leave them up). Thanks for visiting. :)
